Tetra: The Interactive Color Marker and Building Toy for Kids

Connector Color Markers

Tetra is an innovative color marker that not only encourages children to be creative but also promotes the idea of reuse. Designed by Himanshu Shekhar Soni, this unique marker aims to develop social skills and raise awareness of sustainability among children from a young age. By collecting the used markers, children can play and build with them, creating an important and enhancing role in consumer preference.

Tetra is not your ordinary color marker. It is an amusing and interactive building toy that sparks creativity beyond the page. The marker is made up of interesting shapes and combined forms, providing endless opportunities for children to explore their imagination. The simple compound shape makes it easy to press and pull out, while the snap-fit feature allows kids to connect each marker cap and barrel to form various shapes, such as geometric shapes, animals, flowers, and abstract structures. The possibilities are limitless, and it's up to their imagination to bend the rules and come up with new structures.

The realization of Tetra markers involves the use of HDPE plastic and injection molded parts. The Tetra cap measures 55mm in height, 28mm in length, and 28mm in width, while the Tetra barrel stands at 128mm in height and has a diameter of 9mm.

The Tetra color marker concept was born in January 2018 in Noida, India, and the project was completed in March 2018. The design process involved extensive research, including online and market research to identify the lack of engaging and behaviorally positive children's stationary and toys. Further research focused on toys that encourage interaction and help develop social skills. The repurposing of Tetra marker caps not only stimulates creativity but also encourages children to think about reuse, creating a new paradigm for children's products that promote unique behavior and a productive afterlife for the product.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was finding ways to encourage children to develop social skills through a product. Another challenge was designing the functionality of the cap as a toy, allowing children to create abstract and beautiful shapes by connecting identical shapes.

Tetra has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2018, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Toys, Games, and Hobby Products Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Tetra's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics provide fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
